My name is Manda, a counsellor and therapist in Private Practice in Stockport. I am also the Therapy Coordinator for Evolve Therapy Rooms.
Professional Memberships, Training and Qualifications
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling Psychotherapy (BACP) – Registration Number 109984.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy as well as in Transactional Analysis (TA).
My original training was in mental health nursing. I am still a Registered Mental Nurse (RMN). I am a member of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) – Professional Index Number (PIN) 80K1468E. My mental health nurse training covered a broad spectrum of emotional and mental health problems.
Areas of Work
I work with adults and provide therapeutic services for a variety of problems including:
• Anxiety Disorders (such as Social Anxiety, Obsessional Compulsive Disorders (OCD), Phobias, Panic Disorder, Generalised Anxiety);
•Childhood Traumas as well as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder ( PTSD), Trauma-Focused Issues;
• Parenting Matters;
• Relationship Issues including relationship with self;
• Relationship with food including Chocolate.
My Approach to therapy
My main therapy approach to therapy is TA, and my treatment planning is based on TA principles, and I utilise other evidence-based modalities, e.g. Mindfulness and other approaches that I have has training in for specific dis-ease.
My treatment approach and style is compassionate and collaborative and always aim to create a safe place first and foremost where clients can to make a lasting and significant change in their lives.
Some of the work I do with client is goal-directed, skills-based, and short-term and always very much influenced by the desires and strengths of the individual client and building upon their existing strengths.
My work background
I have worked in counselling and psychotherapy since 2002 and in mental health since 1980. During that time, I have worked in inpatient and outpatient settings including working in in adolescent units. I have also worked in the Community settings with a variety of client groups including Assertive Outreach Team (AOT), Early Intervention (in Psychosis) Services (EIS)as well as in Single Point of Access (SPOA) for adults needing mental health services.
I have extensive assessment skills and have a broad knowledge of services to signpost individuals that we cannot offer a service at Evolve Therapy Rooms if they want the information.
